Antibiotics are substances that inhibit microbial growth （including viruses） and growth of other cells.
This is a peptidic antibiotic that directly acts on the biological membrane or the artificial phospholipid membrane and increases the cation permeability. It is a neutral ionophore. It has extremely high selectivity of K+. K+ penetrates through the membrane that is originally impermeable, and since the membrane potential decreases, oxidative phosphorylation in mitochondria is inhibited.
