1.開關(guān)氣路，當(dāng)閥1和閥4關(guān)閉，閥2打開時(shí)，機(jī)械真空泵Ⅲ對(duì)容器I抽真空，氣流流經(jīng)預(yù)真空抽氣管路；當(dāng)閥2關(guān)閉，閥4打開時(shí)，機(jī)械泵可單獨(dú)對(duì)擴(kuò)散泵抽真空；當(dāng)閥1和閥4同時(shí)打開時(shí)，擴(kuò)散泵和機(jī)械泵可同時(shí)工作，對(duì)容器進(jìn)行抽空，此時(shí)氣流流經(jīng)擴(kuò)散泵。可見(jiàn)，閥門在這種操作中的作用是開關(guān)氣路，改變氣流的流經(jīng)路線。

2.控制氣流大小，調(diào)節(jié)真空度在圖1中，調(diào)節(jié)閥1的閥蓋開啟角度，即可調(diào)節(jié)流經(jīng)管路的氣流量大??；關(guān)閉閥2和閥4，通過(guò)放氣閥3可以給機(jī)械泵Ⅲ的入口放成大氣；通過(guò)放氣閥5可以調(diào)節(jié)容器內(nèi)的真空度。

3.定量充氣，在玻璃閥的柱塞上有個(gè)一定體積的小洞，當(dāng)小洞轉(zhuǎn)向右邊和高壓氣瓶連通時(shí)，小洞中就可充滿高壓氣體；當(dāng)它轉(zhuǎn)向左邊和真空容器連通時(shí)，就把該體積的高壓氣體放進(jìn)容器中去，這樣就起到了定量充氣的作用。

4.真空閥門的種類繁多，通常按閥門的職能、結(jié)構(gòu)型式、驅(qū)動(dòng)方式、材料和用途進(jìn)行分類。
